Local Fib Dem Councillors from Ashfield District Council have struck again!
Their election pledges are quickly a thing of the past - promising full consultation, and community involvement.
The real TRUTH has at last come out.
On Monday 26th Jan 2009 one of Hucknall West's councillors presented a paper to Ashfield Cabinet proposing the closure of 2 local leisure centres - Huthwaite and Edgewood.
Our centre in Hucknall is part of the "joint use" agreement with Nottinghamshire County Council where the school uses the facilities during school hours, and in the late afternoons and evenings it's available to the community - a good use of resources.
The Fib Dems state that they want the County Council to take over these facilites - it shows how little understanding they have of local government, and what roles and responsibilites each council has. The County Council does not run leisure centres, that is one of the roles of the District / Borough Councils.
At a time when we need to deal with a "heathier life stye" and trying to re dress in particular child obesity - they propose to close a leisure centre - and for what reason:
TO FUND A NEW SWIMMING POOL IN KIRKBY IN ASHFIELD
We must not forget that we have a library at the school, and any decisions made about the leisure centre will have an effect on our library.
It's interesting to note that 2 of Hucknall West ward councillors are not from Hucknall and don't live here. According to Ashfield District Council Web site, Cllr Louise Bradshaw, and Cllr Austin Rathe both live in Kirkby in Ashfield.
VERY VERY INTERESTING

Becky's our GOLDEN GIRL
Double gold Becky,a credit to her County and her Country.
Nottinghamshire County Council's elite swimming squad NOVA CENTURIAN has gain success. Pictured above is Rebecca Adlington who has been a member of the squad for 7 years. In 2004 she was presented with the award for "Outstanding Achievement of the Year". Since then she has gone from strength to strength. Pictured with her is Chris Baron - then the Cabinet member for Culture who's port folio covered the sports service.
Nottinghamshire has invested over £15 million in the past 15 years on our elite swimming squad, and Bill Furness - Becky's coach, is an employee of the County Council, as this is his full time job. Congratulations to Bill for all his support over the years.
Nottinghamshire is known as the "Sporting County", and this is only one reason why. There will be more successes, as our priorties are sports and young people, and Becky will be championing our cause.

A petition has recently been handed in to the County Council, signed by more than 200 residents - hoping to reduce the speed of traffic along the by pass. The road has had several serious accidents, one unfortunately fatal. Irresponsible motorists overtaking with speed far in excess of the 60 mph speed limit for this road. The picture above shows Dave and Chris monitoring traffic speeds.
The County council has agreed to implement traffic reduction measures to the tune of £112,000. This will include the instalation of refuges, and bollards. They will review the whole length of the by-pass this year, and survey traffic speeds.
Nottinghamshire Police have 3 police officers from Hucknall Police Station who have been trained to use the quatso speed guns, with a priority on monitoring the by-pass.
The community represented by the George Street Residents & Tenants Group are fuming about the Fib Dems from Ashfield. Not only did they not have the guts to attend their last meeting over the contraversal development in their area - but the Leader of the Council Cllr Jason Zadronsny forwarded a letter stating that not only he, nor would any of his officers be in attendance.
Is this true representation or are they afraid to face residents with concerns?
They won't admit they made a mistake, not only did they not consult residents about the planning application, but the general feeling from the meeting the Fib Dems again got it wrong.
"We will repesent you at all the meetings, and at the council to make sure your views are heard" was one of their election quotes.
Pitty they don't put into practise what they assured electors!!!!
Prior to the recent Ashfield District Council elections, your Fib Dems stated that they would object at every stage to the "Wigwam Lane" development.
On Wednesday 20th June we saw the truth on the planning committee. All 5 Fib Dems voted in favour of the development.
"Say one thing - do another"
A promise broken within 2 months of being elected. More promises yet to be broken - watch this space for more Lib Dems lies.
The weekly columns which have appeared in the Hucknall & Bulwell Dispatch, and the Ashfield Chad have been ruled by the District Auditor as being unlawful.
The District Auditor is the body which ensures that the use of the public purse is accountable, and lawful.
The new leadership at Ashfield thought they could use Council Tax payers money for their own political gain.
The reason for his judgement, and the illegal use of council monies are summerised as follows:
The Lib Dems made reference to their own political party.
The Lib Dems made reference to an individual identified as a political party.
The Lib Dems used this material as part of a political campaign.
Such action to spend council tax on personal political campaigns is not acceptable, and the fee of £17,000 per year could be spent much better of facilties and services for the very people who they alledge to represent.
Nottinghamshire County Council have awarded the following school funds to assist with their School Travel plans.
Beardall Street £4980
Broomhill Junior £4755
Butler's Hill Infant £4785
Hillside £5360
This money enables improvements to be introduced to the school sites over the next 3 financial years.
The Council is distributing a total of £321,000 to assist other schools throughout the County.
Your Labour County Councillors have broken the 10 year moratorium on resident only parking schemes.
Hucknall will be the first township in the County to re-instate these schemes. After careful consideration Notts County Council will be consulting with residents on Thoresby Dale estate as well as Carlingford Road, Montague Road, Magdalene Way, Allen Street, Peveril Street and a revised scheme for Vine Terrace.
Every vehicle in each household plus 2 visitors passes will be available should the consultation prove successful.
Cllr Chris Baron and Cllr Dave Shaw said this is long over due, there has been unnecessary parking by non residents on these streets, and if you dont have a garage, it isnt much to ask to be able to park your car outside your own house
It is hoped that the scheme could be implemented by April 2008
The County Garden Party was held on Saturday 14th July at Rufford Country Park.
This is an opportunity for Nottinghamshire County Council to say "thank you" to members of our communities for the work they have done to make our towns and villages better.

News of roadways and pavements will be coming through in the next couple of days.
We will be reporting this then.

Your Labour County Councillors, due to the number of reported injury accidents during the hours of darkness, have been requesting better street lights. From Sandy Lane through to the Hucknall by pass roundabout, improved lighting would help everyone.
Our continued message to the highway department has worked. There will be up graded street lighting installed by the end of the year.
Another success, due to good campaigning on local issues.

Letters to local businesses and shop keepers will be sent shortly, as well as residential properties which will be effected by proposals for the Inner Relief Road.
Leafets (about 4000) will be distributed from next Monday 12th February, and an advertisment will be placed in the Dispatch.
There will be the Thoresby Dale Residents & Tenants meeting on Wednesday 20th June at 7:30pm, at the British Legion Club on Beardall Street. Their main item on the agenda is the proposed Inner Relief Road.
Also from Monday 12th February a web page and a questionnaire will be available on:

It has just been agreed that traffic reduction measures will be put on the Watnall Road towards the bad bends past Rolls Royce heading towards the brick yard.
Unfortunately this road has been notorius for several-potentially avoidable accidents.
It has recently been agreed that the Common Lane / Wood Lane will have traffic calming measures on the road surface. This will NOT be road humps, but gentle plateau's in order to reduce motorist speeds along this very busy stretch of road.
Ruffs Estate - which includes Ruffs Drive, Laughton Crescent, Harrow Road & Willow Avenue are also to get the same traffic speed reduction measures.
It is hoped that all these measures will be in place by January 2007

Nottinghamshire County Council will be carrying out a trial of a new type of flashing amber belisha beacon on the existing zebra crossings on Portland Road (at Henry Street and Beardall Street). This new design should be much brighter, especially in daylight conditions, which will better highlight the locations of the zebra crossings to approaching drivers. They should be installed by the end of next week (installation is scheduled for Thursday 19th October).
Here is the web page link from Norfolk Council who are piloting them as well :
Trials of new Pedestrian Lights
There will not be the Hucknall in Bloom this year - mainly due to the Market place re furbishments. However Chris and Dave have put £350 each towards flowering up the market place in preparation for the official opening which co-insides with the International Byron Festival in July.
We are hoping that our market place will look even better than before, and the floral decorations will compliment St Mary's church and the library.
2006 / 07 The Silver Award has again been given to the fantastic floural displays around the town.
Special Judges Recommendations went to Hope Lea Project on Watnall Road, and Watnall Road Community Garden (behind the former over 60's club)
Work will be starting on securing our cemetry on Broomhill Road. Fencing will be placed around all of the site as the picture shows.
Care was taken to ensure that the fencing was appropiate to a place where we can pay tribute to our friends and family.
